Out of the Faults, We Rise

2021 Artist in Residence, Rebecca Mwanzia

After a seven year break from dancing and choreographing I felt the Lord leading me back into His presence through movement. This piece was placed on my heart, and after many months of prayer I got together with these dear women and we created it. While in quarantine, worship and online church began to feel forced and hollow. It always left me missing what was, and fearful of what the future would hold. As I prayed, I realized worship was never meant to be only on Sunday mornings in our church buildings, I remembered my many years of dancing and creating movement and how that was my favorite form of worship. This piece reminds me that out of what looks helpless and empty and barren, God can create beauty, bring healing, and is our perfect hope. Thank you, Allison D’auteuil and En Croix Movement for offering your space for us to create this piece, and thank you Brittney Ditto and Madison Winter for joining us on this journey! A special shout out to Aldersgate United Methodist Church and North Point Christian Church for the use of your buildings to rehearse and record this Dance for Film. A quick note, the opening of this piece is in silence. Please enjoy!
